Merry Christmas, continued
V
We will spend the money
On Christmas presents for the
Children and each other .
I shall buy you slippers, ties...
And socks, perhaps some shaving lotion.
You will buy me perfume, gloves, a
Bracelet and perhaps a pretty scarf.
...Incidentally, I must get something
For that very clever man... with
Whom I spent all afternoon last week
Discussing child psychology. He did
Help me to see
How I might fulfill the needs
Of children, unconsciously
Rejected by a father who needs peace
And quiet... at the end of a hard day.
...He was so very kind...
And we'll trim a tree
On Christmas Eve... and in the morning,
With the children all aglow and
Squealing with delight, I'll
Look into your eyes
And see
Reflected
My own eyes...
Oh my God in Heaven!
What should I do if Christmas
Never came at all from one year to
The next?
