Reprise

I swore to you my life depended
On seeing you again --
Well then, if not my life,
At least my sanity!
If I could tell you of the things
That whirl incessantly
About my heart and mind!
I cannot sleep --or eat,
Or even think since we last met,
For all the turmoil In my soul.
Oh, please, a moment only!
Let me see you once again,
And anywhere at all!
You were so nice and sympathetic -
That small bar, you said,
That boasts a drafted ale.
And so we talked.
Art and politics --the weather,
Books, music --"What are you
Doing for excitement these days?"
Goodness --look at the time!
Tempus Fugit! And you thought,
"God, what a bore..." and I,
Went home again, slightly
More crazy than before.
